GMC Jammu Organizes Palliative Care Workshop on World Day

Jammu, October 10, 2026: On the occasion of World Palliative Care Day, the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu hosted a significant one-day workshop titled “Pain Management – An Essential Part of Palliative Care.” The event, organised by the Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine, attracted around 130 attendees from various medical disciplines.

This workshop aimed to improve the quality of life for patients facing cancer and other severe health conditions by emphasising comprehensive pain management techniques. Attendees included esteemed consultants, postgraduate residents, and healthcare professionals from both district hospitals and private healthcare facilities.

The workshop served as a vital forum for knowledge sharing and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in the fields of palliative care and cancer pain management, bridging gaps among healthcare providers.

In line with the programme’s objectives, a dedicated palliative care file was inaugurated. This initiative aims to bolster palliative care services and promote systematic approaches for managing patients with critical health challenges.

Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu, provided overarching guidance for the event, while an accomplished organising committee led by Dr. Rajesh Mahajan, included Dr. Madan Katoch, Dr. Naine Bhadrala, and several other notable members.

The scientific agenda of the day featured expert lectures and interactive discussions covering essential topics such as pain assessment, cancer pain management, and effective opioid use. Discussions focused on a holistic approach to palliative care, stressing the importance of compassionate communication and tailored patient treatment plans.

During the event, Dr. Jasmine Chaudhary and Dr. Heena Saini facilitated the sessions, ensuring an engaging atmosphere for all participants. A poster competition on the theme “The Last Chapter Can Still Be Beautiful” celebrated the ideals of dignity, compassion, and quality of life at the end of life.

Students and residents showcased their creativity through poster presentations, highlighting their understanding of these essential concepts in palliative care.

As the CME came to a close, attendees left with a renewed dedication to integrating palliative care practices into their routine clinical roles. They also committed to enabling timely pain relief and ensuring dignified care for patients enduring serious illnesses.
